Paper Bag Crafts: How to Make Fun Paper Bag Crowns

Paper bags are one of the most versatile items in your craft box, and here’s just one more way to make use of those older bags. If you have a paper bag or two lying around and find yourself with both the kids and time on your hands, why not indulge the family’s creative side by making a couple of fun paper bag crowns for everyone to play in?

The great thing about making crowns is that you can use branded paper bags as well as plain ones, so pick those first if you have them available. Next, take your chosen paper bag and carefully cut off the ends. Keep in mind that the more you leave the taller the crown will end up. When you’ve cut off the ends, cut the bag open to create one long piece of paper.

You should now grab a tape measure and take a quick measure of your head. You can do this yourself, but it’s easier to get a little help – remember to make the measurement around where the hat will be expected to sit. If you don’t have a tape measure, you can always use a ribbon and mark it in the appropriate place

Now you have your open paper bag and your head measurement, cut your bag lengthwise to match that measurement. Even if you have all the confidence in the world in your measuring abilities, it’s only smart to check the measurement is right before you join the ends. When you’re sure, tape those ends together inside and out – use clear heavy-duty sticky tape to make this happen.

Voila! You now have the foundation of your crown. It probably looks far from regal at present, so cut the top into crown points to complete the look. Finish by decorating with anything you like. Plastic gems can create your own family jewels, or you can go crazy with glitter and create something a little more original and creative.
